Critical Thinking

I started to just write this post on Facebook but instead opted for my blog post, it’s easier to edit and correct things here. Facebook often thinks for you and changes words which makes you look somewhat ignorant. So, please be sure to edit your Facebook entries before you post them. Somewhere in this dialog I will come up with a title for this article.

I am at home and it’s Sunday afternoon and the weather is just right. Clear and cool, sunshine and about 65 degrees. I should be outside doing some menial task but I choose to extrapolate and opine instead.

My first thought is that I pray every single day, usually several times a day. Not always lengthy prayers but those you just “wing it with.” To pray unceasingly and be in an attitude of prayer or spiritual awareness. I pray mostly for wisdom or as we Masons put it: “To know the right of it”

Church was normal but I took notice of one of the hymns we sang, actually two, but we will begin with: “For the Healing of the Nations” (Methodist Hymnal; 428) I submitted a prayer request card asking for the congregation to pray for our nation and its childlike congress. (“The effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much”! James 5, vs 15) I don’t consider myself righteous but simply full of righteous indignation.

I stood up in church and stated that I had raised two daughters, who were 15 months apart. When they became truly unruly towards each other, I gave them an attitude adjustment and sent them to their respective corners to reflect and contemplate about their behavior. Once again agreeing to become civil towards one another and maintain some iota of sisterly love thus placating our home. Right? Yea! I got some ocean front property I want to sell you!

Women? A Mystery! I have had fights with my brothers, strangers and friends that included biting and gouging, with broken bottles and unconventional maces, but we all went fishing or hunting the next day! No big deal but women hang on with a disproportional amount of vengeful ire. You are literally afraid to close your eyes and sleep when a woman is inclined to be mad at you. Unholy wrath wrapped up in a smiling charade! Alas!

I digress! Back to the hymn. Why can’t we, as Americans, do what the hymn suggests? “To pray with one accord”. “Help us rise and pledge our word!” “Lead us forward into freedom”, “from despair your world release!” “Redeem us from war and hatred so all may come and go in peace!” “That our fear will die and our hope increase” “All that obscures your plan be banned, pride of status, race, schooling, or dogmas”. (Could I add political party here?) “May we hallow life’s brief span”.” In our common quest for justice may we bring the life of Christ to mind that by our response and service, earth, its destiny may find”. Truer words I’ve never heard!

If you listen to the political talking points you might think the world is approaching Armageddon. There is so much to be pleased about even if you don’t like this administration: The economy is booming! The stock market is volatile but healthy. Gas prices are cheap and I see help wanted signs everywhere. The news tells me unemployment is very low, record lows for minorities. The USA has new trade deals with Canada, Mexico and the EU. No tariffs were imposed, just used as leverage to negotiate new deals. The USA is talking with China about a new trade deal and at the same time talking with N Korea and there are no more missiles being fired over Japan or threatening gestures toward the USA. NATO is now paying their fair share of its budget and the USA hasn’t left NATO. Our military is making significant strides at getting our military back to snuff after the insufferable Sequestration. Our military and law enforcement have unequivocally received pay raises and moral support. The USA has negated the deal with Iran who is continually chanting “Death to America” being there was no verification. The world has seen several of the world’s major oil producers; Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Venezuela in crisis but gas is at an unprecedented low in our country. In fact the USA is now independent of OPEC oil and is now a world exporter of petroleum.

The USA has reopened federal land like ANWAR that only had a few dozen tourist visit each year plus 2/3 of the federal land out west to public use and development.

This president is a brawler, he is coarse, rude and unabashed in his behavior (think Andrew Jackson or Teddy Roosevelt.) He is not a politician nor is his demeanor kind or sympathetic. He is from Brooklyn, NY and he is a counter puncher. You hit him or make a snide remark then he comes right back at you even harder. This is who he is but some see him as uncivil and ill equipped but he is who he is “the Art of the Deal” he is a businessman.

The President made his money as most millionaires and billionaires do over many years, not like our politicians that become millionaires by doing political favors. I would ask all of you, how do politicians become so wealthy? Through avarice which translates as underhanded greed. Politicians are slimy and deceitful but they inhabit the Washington DC swamp! This president is not a member of that elite click! Thus the disparagement by his peers!

One party is demanding the president reopen the government before they negotiate. Trump did that last year when he signed the Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government with a promise from Congress that they would address border concerns but the Democrats reneged. Slap me once and shame on me, slap me twice, shame on you. Pelosi has already said that she will not give him a wall even if he reopens the government. She was true to her word, Trump reopened the government and Pelosi stated “NOT!” and refuses to negotiate, not one dollar for a wall! I sympathize with our President and the government employees not being paid and it may happen again at the end of February. The USA needs to resolve this issue regardless of the political parties.

Political One-up-man-ship, don’t let a crisis go to waste, use it for political advantage. There is a crisis at our southern border and it is not contrived or imagined, caravans continuously coming northward with thousands of people demanding asylum because they want a better life. There are plenty of issues to upset everyone, abortion, infanticide, sanctuary cities, debasement of law enforcement, illegal immigration, collusion, special investigator, Israel, trade, race relations, etc. If you listen to the politicians, there are innumerable man made crisis to embroil the populace.

As an Ancient Free and Accepted Mason, we are about knowledge and the dissolution of ignorance, It is what we refer to as light, translated as; a progression from or evolvement from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge and taking a good man and making him better but the absolute necessity is your belief in God and a life eternal, Nothing can be destroyed, only changed in form. Death is not the end but just another adventure. The immortality of the soul! That brings me to the second hymn I spoke of: We Masons are all about Light!

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Methodist Hymnal #103

Immortal, Invisible, God only wise,

In light inaccessible hid from our eyes.

Most blessed, most glorious, The Ancient of Days,

Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,

Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;

Thy justice like mountains high soaring above

Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life thou givest, to both great and small;

In all life thou livest, the true life of all;

We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree,

And wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.

Thou reignest in glory, thou dwellest in light;

Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;

All laud we tender: O help us to see

Tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.

Again! I would ask my democratic friends and independent associates, including my tree hugging, climate change, carbon footprint, progressive liberals, not to forget my feminist and liberated acquaintances to ease up! This country is doing quite well.

Half of the USA citizens are mad, irate! They haven’t gotten over Hillary losing and they are indignant. It is all about power, who rules! The USA is trucking right alone! I am for a Space Force, I am for a wall, ask the people that know, The Border Patrol. I want to beat Russia and China to Mars. China just landed a rover on the dark side of the moon! Do any of you, especially Democrats and progressives, still believe we should lead from behind? DAG-NAB-IT!! Get on board and let’s support America. Vote this President out in the next election if you wish. I didn’t vote for Clinton the 1st time but I damn well did the 2nd because the country was doing so well and it’s the same here. The USA is doing well! Get on board!

In summary, my democratic friends vote party invariably instead of using critical and pragmatic reasoning. (Common sense) A quote tells it like it is: “civilized discourse demands critical thinking, self-reflectiveness and sober headed analysis! JFK remarked that “Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought” Well Said!
