(1) Spoonerism: (spoon-er-ism), noun, A transposition of initial sounds of two or more words, often humorous. A verbal error. Example” a blushing crow comes out as a crushing blow”. A play on words, The Lord is a loving Shepard comes out as “The Lord is a shoveling leopard”
(2) Wegotism: (we-go-tism), noun, The habit of referring to oneself by the pronoun “we”. Synonym is weism.
(3) Idiosyncrasy: (id-i-o-syn-cra-sy) noun, A mode of behavior or way of thought peculiar to an individual or group. Peculiarities of: a mannerism or quirk that differentiates an individual or group.
How about those words? I came across them last week and I thought them noteworthy. As is peculiar with me, I jot them down, I then make a sentence with them and then archive them with no further thought of using them or applying them in my everyday speech nor using them in my articles. Nevertheless they are registered somewhere in my subconscious and adequately filed away in my haphazardly arranged memory.
Theoretically the words spoonerism and wegotism are peculiarities of speech. My deceased brother and one of my daughters display spoonerism in hilarious instances that bewilder and causes one to smile from ear to ear. For instance my brother was once trying to say premeditated murder but it came out as pervert-i-tated mother. I always called it “just murdering the English language” or “twisting one's words”. I did not know there was a correct word for it. I remember my brother attempting to say “it’s immaterial” but it came out as im-ma-near-rial. I remember a skit on Hee-Haw that was named Cinderseller and her three blisters. You get my drift! Funny indeed!
As for wegotism. I apply this to myself in that I sometimes refer to myself as we. I reflected on this enigma and determined that I am referring to myself, my thoughts and beliefs, all encompassed in a framed portrait of my conservative Christian tenants and beliefs. It is not me speaking but a multitude of diverse individuals within me that adheres to the basic morality and common sense of this world as determined by my sense of God (Mother Nature). I am not one person but have been many persons in my lifetime; a child, a teenager, a soldier, a husband and father, a provider and protector. I have been wise and unwise but continually learning and applying the lessons learned. I have been a devout Christian, a pagan, a back slider. I have glorified in myself and in Mother Nature and have been an adventurer and risk taker. There are many individuals who comprise the creature that is me, so I often say we when I address an issue. I am a Free and Accepted Mason and we say “So Mote It be “which translates to” So says God, so say we all“
I am reminded of the Biblical passage we find in the Gospel of Mark (KJV) 5:9. And Jesus asked “What is your Name?" The man replied “My name is Legion, for we are many” For those who haven’t read your Bible. There was a man who was afflicted by evil spirits and implored Jesus to help him. Jesus spoke to the demonic spirits who begged him not destroy them so he allowed them to come out of the man and inter into a herd of swine which in turn ran down and drowned themselves in the sea. Poetic Justice!
Why are the great minds and ideas of this generation subdued or forced out, expunged in favor of being politically correct? America is surrendering her long held beliefs and tenants for a liberal progressive ideology. America is under siege by radical groups like Black Lives Matter and Anti-fa. There seems there is no aptitude for greatness, all I see is mediocracy, America being led by the mediocre, corrupt politicians who are only interested in getting re-elected.

I have been depressed and reluctant to publish this post for no other reason than I felt it lacking in substance. I was inspired in church today by a very good sermon about Faith, Grace, and the Bible which instructs us in the tenets, precepts and principals of our faith. I am wroth over the decline of our culture into a secular society that urges you to look to your government for aid and deliverance and decries people of faith as detrimental to society because we are prejudiced and bias, we are racist and bigots. It's called progressiveness- look it up. I will only state that I am traditional and adhere to conservative Christian values that were taught me by my mother, school, military and church, which are the long held beliefs of this nation.
The first scripture reading was Psalms 119: 105 thru 112.
105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.
107 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according to thy Word.
108 Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth,O Lord, and teach me thy judgments.
109 My soul is continually in thy Hand: yet do I not forget the law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.
111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.
112 I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes always, even unto the end.
Ya See? "In the beginning was the Word and The Word was with God and the Word was God" That was my Mothers favorite Bible verse that she quoted to me since I was a child. I am not a religious person nor do I brow beat people with the Bible. Only God can redeem you, I can't! My strength is my belief in God and acknowledging God as our Maker, Our Creator. God is a mystery, certainly an enigma. The second scripture reading is from 2nd Timothy, 3: 14 thru 17
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them
15 And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Yea! None of us are righteous, no, not one but we Christians know that and that is why we are in church acknowledging that we are sinners and need God. Simple! I am also a Free and Accepted Mason and in our ritual we are asked " In whom do you place your trust?" we answer "In God" and we are told Your Faith is well founded"
